My photography centers on my physical exploration of the natural world. In some sense, my photographs are all happenstance—results of already being in the right place, occasionally at the right time, for reasons beyond photography. Time outdoors has always felt natural to me. As a child, I spent my days playing in the woods and creeks of central Wisconsin. When the sun began to set, I often felt an inexplicable compulsion to borrow my parents’ camera and capture the painted skies over marshes, meadows, and pastures—simple landscapes. Since then, I have traveled extensively, living in many national parks and abroad, and have embraced this instinct on increasingly larger scales.
